Christian Gschwend

Welcome to my website. I'm Christian Gschwend and I live in Buchs (Eastern Switzerland). In my leisure time, I enjoy my family and the beautiful nature in and around Buchs. I have the luck that I can share my life with my lovely wife and my two wonderful daughters.

Running

Keep On Moving

Running changed and still changes my life. Running gives a lot more than just physical fitness: Mental health, open mind, social contacts, endurance (not only physically) etc. About three years ago, I couldn't have imagined that I would have fun, running around 50km a week (still increasing).

Distances, speeds, heart rates etc. are well known parameters among runners. An obvious question of a runner could be: "Is running 50km a week a lot?" It's not relevant if 50km of running a week is a lot or not. If you want to get better in running and achieve a specific goal, such numbers help setting up a personal training schedule. However, distances, speeds and heart rates are just numbers. My recommendation: Set your personal goals, be ambitious, give everything you have to achieve your goals, but don't use such numbers to compare yourself with others.

For me, the most important thing about running and everything I do in life, is passion. Passion isn't only being excited or a smiling face. In my opinion, a passionate runner just loves running. With love for running, the rest comes by itself: Passion, continuity, patience, performance, in this order and you might run for the rest of your life. Keep On Moving!

Research

Context-Aware Movement Analysis

After visiting the regular school and high school in St. Gallen (Switzerland), I studied Geography at University of Zurich. Geoinformatics is fascinating, because this research area combines a strong mathematic logic with the beauty of spatial phenomena. In my research at University of Zurich, I aimed for a better understanding of the interrelation between movement patterns of people or animals, and their geographic environment using quantitative methods.
